01 / CAPABILITIES
From a close visual inspection to a georeferenced seabed model, we plan the capture around the decisions you need to make.
Compact surface-vessel surveys using 3D sonar and RTK positioning. Map marinas, berths, hydro reservoirs and shallow-water infrastructure.
Point clouds · Bathymetric surfaces · Contours
Visual and sonar-assisted inspection of subsea assets, piles, pipelines, mooring systems, hydro dams and reservoir infrastructure, with recorded evidence for engineering review.
Inspection footage · Asset observations · Reporting
Stereo image capture and 3D reconstruction to document asset condition and geometry. In-field coverage review supports an efficient survey campaign.
Textured models · Detailed geometry · Repeat surveys
Chain dimensioning, line orientation, flange and spool geometry, and structural measurements. Survey control and measurement uncertainty are defined for each scope.

MARINE ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMMES
ROV NZ provides subsea data acquisition and survey capability to support marine environmental assessment, research and monitoring programmes. Our ROV and USV platforms can acquire georeferenced imagery, 3D bathymetry, photogrammetry and repeatable spatial datasets for seabed and habitat assessment, environmental baseline surveys and change monitoring.
We work alongside environmental scientists, research organisations and specialist consultants to integrate subsea survey data into wider environmental programmes.
02 / PROJECT EVIDENCE
A closer look at the capture methods, measurements and deliverables behind our survey capabilities.

USV SURVEY / SEPTEMBER 2026
A BlueBoat USV with Cerulean OmniScan 450 3D sonar captured overlapping scans of the marina manoeuvring area, supported by dual-antenna RTK GNSS.
Coverage planning, overlapping sonar capture, quality review, point-cloud filtering and surface generation.
Reported point spacing was 3.40–4.19 cm across individual scans. Expected relative system accuracy was ±5 cm for this survey; this is distinct from GNSS precision.

PHOTOGRAMMETRY / ENGINEERING MEASUREMENT
As part of a major Australian oil and gas decommissioning project, ROV NZ surveyed 17 subsea wells using stereo imagery and 3D reconstruction to support engineering review.
Our wider metrology work includes mooring chain dimensioning, line orientation and spool project measurements.
The Australian decommissioning well campaign used Voyis Discovery Stereo with EIVA VSLAM coverage review and preliminary models produced offshore.
Our wider spool measurement work reported 3 mm relative feature accuracy and 30–50 mm absolute accuracy across larger distances in the featured campaign.
Deliverables include point clouds, textured models, annotated measurements and engineering documentation, as agreed.
MOORING CHAIN / 3D METROLOGY
Processed subsea models provide a record of mooring-chain geometry, with measurements placed directly on the reconstructed links for engineering review.
These examples show annotated link diameters, weld-area dimensions and dimensions across adjacent links.
Achieved chain measurement repeatability was approximately ±0.5 mm in the featured campaign. Repeatability is distinct from absolute accuracy; survey control and measurement uncertainty are defined for each project.

ROV CLEANING / PILE INSPECTION
Targeted ROV cleaning removed marine growth from inspection areas on the pile. Pre-cleaning and post-cleaning imagery documents the visible change and provides a clearer view of the underlying surface.
These images show the pile before cleaning and the exposed inspection area after cleaning at −2 m.
03 / DELIVERABLES
Coordinate systems, vertical datums, coverage and acceptance criteria are agreed before mobilisation. Deliverables are prepared for the software and engineering workflow you use.

04 / ROV NZ
We bring subsea operations and measurement together.
Based in Nelson and Whangārei, ROV NZ delivers subsea inspection, survey, engineering and operational support for New Zealand and international clients. We combine experienced ROV personnel with stereo imaging, sonar and positioning systems to build a clear picture of underwater assets.
Our work spans ports and marine infrastructure, offshore energy, hydro dams and reservoirs, water infrastructure, defence and research. We have completed underwater surveys for multiple clients with hydro dam and reservoir assets.
We select and integrate the ROV, sonar, imaging and positioning tools around your asset, site conditions and required deliverables. Our team manages survey planning, field acquisition, data processing and quality review.
Equipment supply, integration, training and ongoing support are also available.
